John (Jack) Burris was born on March 12, 1933 in Cannelburg, Indiana. He spent his 84 years of life dedicated to God, his family and his country.
He was married for 60 years and was blessed with 2 sons and one grandson. He proudly served with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean Conflict, worked 47 years as a supervisor at Linkbelt Corporation of Indianapolis and spent the last 7 years of his retirement as a part-time driver for Speedway Auto Parts.
He attended St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg and was a longtime member of the American Legion. He liked to hunt, fish and work on cars, but his favorite hobby was sitting under the trees, quietly, listening to the birds sing.
Jack was the son of Walter and Bonetia Padgett Burris. He was married to Patricia Grove Burris and had two sons: Kevin Patrick Burris (deceased), and Dr. Christopher Todd Burris of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. There is one grandson, Andrew Patrick Burris of Indianapolis, and one sister, Norma Burris McCracken of Washington, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Jack’s name to: Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607. A private burial will be held at a later date.

May God bless you all during this difficult time of loss. While I never met Jack, you can tell by the smile on his face and the long time dedication to his family and country that he was a great man! I am a friend of his Daughter-in-law who prays for comfort for the entire family.

Jack was a brother-in-law that was like a brother to me. My father became a cripple when I was 9 yrs. old and Jack took over teaching me things that I had not had the opportunity to experience like fishing and hunting. He was there when I shot my first squirrel and was as excited and happy as I was. Thru life he laughed at my stupid jokes and the fact that I could not whistle or sing in tune. I enlisted in the Marines when I was 18 and I think he was proud of that fact since he had been in the airborne service. I came home from Vietnam in 1967 and we had the opportunity to drink a beer or two together on several get togethers. I was a little wild before and after the service but Jack never seemed to lose faith in me although a lot of other people did.
Our last conversation was when he was still healthy and it was just him and I. He expressed his faith as did I and the fact that God was in control. I find it impossible that Jack had one enemy in this world. He was just a good old boy from Indiana that would help you any he could. I cannot wait to see him in heaven. Thank you Jack for being a part of my life.
